The City of Chilliwack is responsible for creating, naming and maintaining the majority of Chilliwack’s parks, nature areas or trails, while some parks and trails are managed by the Fraser Valley Regional District.
From the list of park names, we can see that most of the parks were named:
- After landowners, communities, streets and roads
- After descriptive, geographic or physical features in the area
- After organizations, clubs or park supporters
- In honour of, or in memory of residents, politicians or community leaders
Some park names have changed over time as properties were subdivided or expanded. New parks are added over time.
