The name Cheam comes from the name of the Cheam Indian Band. In Halq’eméylem, Cheam means “wild strawberry place”.
The Stó:lō place name for Cheam Peak is Lhilheqey, meaning “place where thunder used to come out of” (Carlson, 2001).
