McCammon Elementary was named after Mayor Theodore McCammon in 1967.
Theodore Thomas McCammon was born in Paris, Ontario on Nov. 11, 1897. He served in The Second Canadian Mounted Rifles during WW1 and was a veteran of the battle of Vimy Ridge. McCammon came to Chilliwack in 1919 with his father and they opened a furniture store on Wellington Ave. which they operated until 1956.
McCammon began his local civic involvement in 1925 when he became master of Ionic Lodge 19. He served as president of Branch 4 Canadian Legion for 2 years and for 15 years served as a member of the executive.
McCammon spent more than 15 years as a Volunteer Fireman for the city. In 1937 he was elected to city council and served as an alderman for 5 years before becoming Mayor in 1942. He served Chilliwack as Mayor for 24 1/2 years.
