“Barber Drive is named after Harry James Barber. Harry J. Barber was born on March 29, 1875 in Alton, Ontario where he apprenticed as a pharmacist. Harry Barber was the founder, with Dr. J. C. Henderson, of the Barber Drug Company Ltd., one of the oldest pharmaceutical establishements in the Lower Mainland; of which, he later became the sole proprietor. He has served as chair of the school board for eight years.
He was a charter member of the Board of Trade, organized in 1903 and its president for four years (1909-1913). In 1914, he was chosen as mayor of the city and under his council the first sewerage was installed. In 1925, he was elected to the House of Commons and served the whole Fraser Valley for 15 years.”
