Robertson Elementary is named after James Crerar Robertson.
Robertson was born on June 28, 1856 in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, Scotland where he learned his trade as a builder in Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh. On June 10, 1881 James Robertson married Catherine Paterson, in Glasgow, Scotland, and together they immigrated to Canada in 1889. James Crerar Robertson founded his family construction and building supplies business in 1894. The family lived and worked in New Westminster and Vancouver for about four years, after which they moved to Chilliwack. James was active in the community as a builder and contractor as well as Chair of the Township School Board until 1921. Robertson Elementary School was built in 1921 and named Robertson School, after him.
