It is not known who named the settlement located on the island bordered by the Fraser River and the Hope Slough and connected to Chilliwack via small bridges.
Ballam (2008) comments that “one cannot help but wonder at the foresight of whoever named the island, one who could look beyond the forest of trees, and possibly low swamps, and envision ‘Fair Fields’.”
